Specialist training

  • Monika completed her training in medicine and postgraduate studies in Ophthalmology with the University of Mumbai and the prestigious King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, which is the largest public tertiary referral centre in all of Western India.
  • After moving to the UK in 2003, she underwent further training in Ophthalmology and obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of London.
  • Subsequently she relocated to Auckland and undertook subspecialist fellowship training in Ocular Genetics, Medical Retina and Uveitis and Vitreoretinal surgery.

She has published in several international journals, given lectures at national and international conferences and been involved in research projects investigating various aspects of inherited eye disorders and diabetic retinopathy. She is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Greenlane Clinical Centre and the Manukau Superclinic where she also teaches Vitreoretinal and Medical Retina Fellows, registrars and medical students. She is an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Auckland, through which she maintains her research interests in addition to her clinical work.
About Monika Pradhan
Originally from India, Monika has now made Auckland her home for more than a decade. She is an Ophthalmologist with subspecialist expertise in Medical and Surgical Retina and Uveitis.  She is passionate about providing the highest quality of eye care with a very personalised approach to her patients. She aims to provide a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of all retinal disorders, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and macular holes and epiretinal membranes. With the use of latest diagnostic equipment and advanced vitreoretinal microsurgery, injections and laser treatments, she strives to prevent visual loss. She is also adept at cataract surgery including complex cases secondary to uveitis and retinal disorders.
Monika devotes her spare time to her two children and pet dogs. She loves music, reading and travelling.
