Special Training
Rasha is an Irish trained ophthalmologist. She finished her both basic and higher surgical training in ophthalmology in Ireland. She obtained her Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Royal college of Surgeons in Ireland 2002, and her Master degree in cataract surgery in 2003 from University College Galway/ Ireland. She finished her higher surgical training scheme in Ireland 2007, during which she has awarded few national and international awards, she has dual fellowship in both cornea and anterior segment , as well as paediatric ophthalmology, She is also a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of ophthalmologist.
She is sub-specialized in Cataract surgery, Corneal disease, including pterygium and ocular surface problem, Anterior segment reconstruction, and Paediatric eye diseases. Rasha currently is senior lecturer in Ophthalmology department at Auckland University, involved mainly in teaching as well as research. She is working as a Specialist with Counties Manukau District Health Board, and also at Milford eye clinic in private sector.
Rasha’s main area of research and interest is cataract and its surgery, cornea and anterior segment, paediatric anterior segment diseases especially allergic eye disease in children, Myopia in children, its progression, methods to slow myopia progression. In addition to early detection of keratoconus, prevention and management.Outside ophthalmology, Rasha enjoys cooking and playing badminton. She lives with her husband and together they enjoy the region beaches, bush and city. Cycling trips, exploring new places in New Zealand and their two teenage children keep them happily busy at all times.
